The Port Authority of Bilbao has awarded the works for the construction of the Arasur rail siding to the Temporary Consortium of Companies made up of Construcciones Mariezcurrena, S.L and Construcciones y Promociones Coprosa, S.A. at a cost of 5,319,584 euros (less VAT) with a 15-month completion period.
The works are the result of the agreement signed by the Autonomous Basque Government, the Territorial Council of Alava and the Port Authority of Bilbao for the installation of a Port of Bilbao operational rail base at this logistics platform. The Port Authority has carried out the works tender, but the three aforementioned entities will be responsible for the financing.
On the one hand, this new port-rail link supposes a strategic opportunity for the Arasur Logistics Platform and will boost the interconnectivity of the main logistics nodes and transport infrastructures in the Basque Country.
On the other, it will benefit Port of Bilbao interests inasmuch as it will form part of a strategic logistics platform, as it will contribute to attracting and consolidating port traffic, and, by extension, to promoting competitiveness.
