They are free and take place at weekends.
This year, the Port Authority of Bilbao will continue with the free guided Port of Bilbao tours for adults. This initiative, which was launched in May 2014, offers visits on Saturdays and Sundays and forms part of its “Ezagutu Portua” (Basque for Know your Port) programme.
Since the tours commenced, 4,300 visitors have come to the Port facilities at Santurtzi and Zierbena, with an average of 28 people per group. The objective is to make local people familiar with the Port’s activity and its strategic and economic importance for all of Biscay.
The tours are by coach, start at 10.30 a.m. at the Santurtzi Tourist Office, and last some two hours. Those interested should register beforehand at the email address below:
ezagutuportua@bilbaoport.eus or at the www.bilbaoport.eus website.
The tours take in both the oldest part of the Port as well as the new docks on lands reclaimed from the sea. Visitors can see the
dock equipped for container loading/unloading, the Ro-Ro ramps specially prepared for wheeled cargo, the perishables warehouses, the laboratories where phytosanitary controls are carried out, the emergency rescue centre, the docks for heavy project loads and the industrial zone where the great oil and gas carriers berth and where the first marine wind farm in Spain is located.
