They are free and take place at weekends
This coming year, the Port Authority of Bilbao will continue to offer free tours of the Port of Bilbao aimed at adults. This initiative was started in May 2014, and the tours are carried out on Saturdays and Sundays as part of the “Ezagutu Portua” (Basque for “Know your Port”) programme.
Throughout this time, some 5,500 adults have visited the Port’s facilities in Santurtzi and Zierbena, with an average of 28 per group. The aim of the tours is to bring the public closer to Port activity and its strategic and economic importance for all of the Territory of Biscay.
The tours, which take place by coach, begin at 10.30 a.m. at the Santurtzi Tourist Information Office and last about two hours. Those interested should register beforehand by email at ezagutuportua@bilbaoport.eus
or at the website www.bilbaoport.eus.
The tours take in both the oldest part of the Port as well as the new docks built on lands reclaimed from the sea. Visitors can see the dock equipped for container loading/unloading, the Ro-Ro ramps specially prepared for wheeled cargo, the perishables warehouses, the laboratories where phytosanitary controls are carried out, the emergency rescue centre, the docks for heavy project loads and the industrial zone where the great oil and gas carriers berth and where the first marine wind farm in Spain is located.
