On Wednesday, 9 March, the Port Authority of Bilbao will take part in the 1st Forum on Present-day Challenges for International Transport: Intermodality and Logistics Infrastructures. This Spanish logistics and transport sector event is organised by the Centro Español de Logística (Spanish Logistics Centre).
The forum will address the challenges currently facing the international transport sector, with a particular focus on the advantages of rail-maritime intermodality for international logistics. Participants in the event, to be held in Coslada (Madrid), will include experts in international transport, professionals from the logistics sector and representatives of railway operators and port authorities.
Mr. Andima Ormaetxe, Director of Operations, Commerce, Logistics and Strategy of the Port Authority of Bilbao, will take part, together with representatives of other Spanish ports and experts in logistics and international trade, in a round table discussion on the current situation and future plans of ports.
Andima Ormaetxe will present the logistics and multimodal
solutions provided by the port of Bilbao, which saw 4,358 trains enter or leave its facilities last year, a 15% increase on the previous year. The share of train use by containers has now reached 23%. The port of Bilbao currently has rail connections with Zaragoza and other locations such as Abroñigal, Arasur, Azuqueca, Barcelona, Coslada, Jundiz, Noáin, Nonduermas, Pancorbo, Seville, Silla, Vicálvaro and Villafria.
