Bilbao will host the 2025 edition of this conference for industry professionals
The Port Authority of Bilbao will this year once again take part in the annual Coastlink Conference to explain the different strategic actions it is taking with the port community to promote short sea shipping with Europe.
The 2024 Coastlink Conference, to be held from 24 to 25 April in Amsterdam, will bring together ports and port operators, short sea shipping lines, intermodal operators and freight forwarders. The conference will promote debate on the challenges and opportunies affecting the industry of short sea shipping and the intermodal transport networks that support it.
On the first day of the conference, Andima Ormaetxe, the Operations, Commercial, Logistics and Strategy Director of the Port Authority, will be a panellist in a round table discussion on the importance of collaboration in the development of green corridors. The same afternoon, Mr. Ormaetxe will be a speaker in the session on the benefits of modal shift to deliver more resilient supply chains.
About the Port of Bilbao
With more than 700 years of history and a privileged position on the Atlantic Arc, the Port of Bilbao offers a gateway for direct communication between Spain and Europe. The flexibility and dynamism of the port enable it to receive any type of vessel or cargo, with specialised services for all types of traffic.
Bilbao is the main port in the north of Spain for short sea shipping and is the leader among Spanish ports in terms of intermodality: 29% of containers are transported by rail.
Key strategic factors of the Port of Bilbao include environmental sustainability, competitive services and enabling economic growth, with the development of greener and digital maritime corridors as an additional priority. This strategy has recently been strengthened by the newly announced collaboration between the Port of Bilbao, the Port of Amsterdam and the Port of Duisburg, all of whom, together with the Basque Government Energy Agency (EVE) and other partners, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to combine their efforts in developing a European renewable hydrogen corridor.
