In September, the Port of Bilbao will be the venue for the Project Cargo Summit, the other major event of the sector
As in previous years, the Port Authority of Bilbao and UniportBilbao, together with several companies operating in the port, will once again be at Breakbulk Europe (Stands E25-F24, Hall 1), the world’s largest project cargo, heavy lift and breakbulk event, to be held in Rotterdam from 21 to 23 May.
Breakbulk Europe is an excellent opportunity for the multimodal logistics sector of Bilbao to showcase what it has to offer. The event provides companies with a stage to show shipping lines and other logistics operators the capacity of the port and its terminals, and enables them to approach and network with shippers to offer them the services available to the Bilbao business community.
In 2023, over 3 million tonnes of this type of traffic was handled through the port of Bilbao, mainly steel products, wind power components, heavy machinery, paper and pulp and construction materials. The fastest growing type of traffic was machinery, with the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium and Finland as stand-out European markets, alongside transoceanic markets such as Japan, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and the United States. The fastest growing markets were, in fact, from this latter group: Vietnam, Japan and India.
Breakbulk Europe 2024 will also provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the industrial side of the port of Bilbao, stemming from the industrial tradition of its important hinterland, and the ever-increasing size of the parts to be shipped. This industrial tradition can, in turn, be seen in its inner harbour, which has found new areas of opportunity adjacent to the old shipyards.
Finally, from 17 to 18 September, Bilbao will be the venue for another major event of the sector: the Project Cargo Summit, to be hosted by the Port Authority of Bilbao.
