The Port Authority of Bilbao and the Adecco Foundation organised a day of activities to create corporate awareness and volunteerism in order to bring the company nearer to the mentally disabled, as well as to help them advance in their social and work integration.
The initiative brought together twenty volunteers from the Port Authority and people from the Down Syndrome Foundation and other mental disabilities.
In the first of the activities, the volunteers were hosts on a guided visit to the Port’s facilities where they showed its main daily activities.
Then, the volunteers accompanied their guests to a sports centre to practise a circuit of different sports including wheelchair basketball, table tennis and boccia as part of the awareness process. This was in collaboration with Bidaideak, the independent Basque Association for the disabled.
The interchange of values, team work and the shared effort of both disabled and non-disabled people were the main ingredients that characterised the day.
