At its Port of Bilbao Facility, Bahía de Bizkaia Gas (BBG) received the carrier Eduard Toll from the Port of Sabetta in the Yamal Peninsula, Russia. The ship was launched last December to provide services for one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world. It was the first time that a methane-carrier from this port of origin had arrived at BBG and the Port of Bilbao, and also the first complete discharge to be carried out in the Iberian Peninsula whose immediate origin was Sabetta.
The vessel of 127,000 gross tonnage, 299 metres long and 50 wide belongs to the multi-national Teekey, and is an ice-breaker especially designed to navigate in the harsh conditions of the Arctic Sea.
The 163,000m3 of LNG was imported by Axpo Iberia S.L., which has been operating with BBG for some time.
The Yamal LNG Project is a huge liquefied natural gas project located on the Yamal Peninsula in Russia, where one of the
greatest gas and oil reserves in the world is to be found. The usual route for these ice-breakers is between Sabetta and Zeebrugge (Belgium), although this time, the Port of Bilbao was chosen as its destination.
