On Saturday 28 July, Biscay Bridge, popularly known as “the Hanging Bridge” will celebrate its 125 anniversary, and to commemorate it, different activities have been organised among which figure sporting events, such as zip-line, bungee jumping, stairway to heaven and inflatables; artistic, like a quick open-air painting competition or the presentation of works by students of the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of the Basque Country to decorate the four covered exterior accesses; or cultural, like the exhibition in the Rialia Museum or a talk about the Bridge’s hidden treasures.
All the activities will be backed by music on both of the Bridge’s banks at Portugalete and Getxo.
In addition, on Friday 27 July, the day previous to the commemoration, the VI World Transporter Bridge Congress will be held. The Congress will be centred on three themes: presentation by their representatives of the present state of transporter bridges in the world, information concerning the application of the Heritage Convention and candidatures in series, and the revitalisation of the worldwide association of transporter bridges, constituted in Portugalete in 2003.
