Transmodal 2024, the largest event in the Basque Country on Intermodality and Logistics, will once again bring together industrial, exporting, transport and distribution companies and logistics operators in the auditorium of the Alava Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the development of intermodality, the importance of the Atlantic Axis for trade and the operability provided by the Júndiz Intermodal Terminal.
Co-organised by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Alava and the Port Authority of Bilbao, in collaboration with Howden, the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Alava, the aim of the XVI Intermodal Logistics Forum is to improve the competitiveness of the sector through the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
The opening of the forum will feature Gregorio Rojo, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Álava; Ricardo Barkala, President of the Port Authority of Bilbao; Ramiro González, Head of the Provincial Council of Álava; and Imanol Pradales, Lehendakari (First Minister) of the Basque Government. This will be followed by a talk on ‘The Atlantic Corridor: importance and key infrastructure’, to be given by José Antonio Sebastián Ruiz, Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, after which Andima Ormaetxe, Director of Operations, Commerce, Logistics and Strategy at the Port Authority of Bilbao, and Xabier Gutiérrez, SSL Intra North Europe Branch Sales Manager Bilbao at CMA CGM, will present the intermodal strategy of the Port of Bilbao and its contribution to the development of more sustainable transport in the Atlantic Corridor.
The event will then continue with a panel discussion featuring experts from different sectors operating in the Atlantic Axis area. These include Olivier Maljean, Plant Supply Chain & Customer Centricity Manager at ADISSEO; Antonio Mora, Rail Manager and Director of Multimodal Development at Altair; José Antonio Tierno, President of the Group of Cooperatives from the Jerte Valley in Cáceres, Spain; and Ander Carrillo, Head of Semi-finished Products at the Vitoria Factory of Michelin Spain-Portugal.

After a break for coffeee and networking, the event will continue with a talk on the Júndiz Intermodal Terminal by Luis Vicente Moreno, Director of Logistics Services at ADIF, and will conclude half an hour later with a panel discussion on the operation of the Intermodal Terminal, featuring Enrique Tros de Ilarduya, General Manager of Railsider Atlántico; Steve Molenaar, Group Intermodal Manager at WEC Lines Spain; Ana Sardón, Head of Inbound Logistics & Container Management at Mercedes-Benz Spain; Manfred Nindl, Manager of Distribution Logistics and Customs & Outbound Logistics at Mercedes-Benz Spain; Andima Ormaetxe, Director of Operations, Commerce, Logistics and Strategy at the Port Authority of Bilbao; and Luis Vicente Moreno himself.
This latest edition of Transmodal focuses on an issue which is key for the region and for the Port of Bilbao: intermodality. With 29% of containers shipped in or out of the port by rail, the Port of Bilbao is a role-model in this area, demonstrating its capacity for development and positioning itself strategically close to the leading ports in Northern Europe, further highlighting its potential for growth and strengthening regional and international connectivity.
