The Port of Bilbao Authority has granted the Biscay Red Cross a 1,400 sq m warehouse to store an advanced medical station for use in incidents involving multiple victims, catastrophes or situations where the health services are overwhelmed.
The warehouse is located at the Zorroza docks in Bilbao. The Biscay Red Cross Emergency Response Team material includes a vehicle and a light trailer with advanced health equipment and a heavy vehicle with a road train configuration and the capacity to increase the healthcare area by 11 stretchers, 2 serious-injury beds and 50 hospital beds, or alternatively 50 places in a provisional shelter. It can also generate enough electricity to light the whole of the health area perimeter, as well as the inside of the modules and the electromedical devices.
It furthermore has an area that can house up to 30 healthcare workers. This area comprises 15 two-bedroom tents, two mess tents, food and hygiene kits. There is enough perishable material to last for an estimated 48-72 hours.
