First phase transfers 72,500m² lands already in public use
Second phase to pass over a further 39,100m² to three town councils
The Port Authority of Bilbao has approved the free transfer of its capital assets to riverside towns, after disaffecting these spaces belonging to the Port public domain ten years ago, and declaring them to be unnecessary for the development of Port uses and exploitation.
These areas were used by the towns affected through the respective Port leases or authorisations, and after completing the relevant procedures, will now officially become the property of these towns at no cost to be used as they are at present for public and social interest.
Up to now, 72,500 square metres have been transferred to the town councils of Santurtzi, Sestao and Getxo.
Santurtzi will receive nearly 56,000 square metres which are occupied by the municipal sports centre and swimming pools and the promenade surrounding them as far as the
neighbouring town of Portugalete.
Sestao will be donated with 7,234 square metres occupied by La Benedicta Sports Centre and the adjoining estate.
Finally, Getxo will receive 9,324 square metres corresponding to the CampadelLoro zone, and which includes a landscaped area with swings, street furniture and a small public car park.
Pending the relevant procedures, which are expected to be finalised by the end of the year, is the transfer of a further 39,100 square metres to Portugalete (the swimming pools on Churruca Quay), Leioa (the Lamiako Ring Road) and Santurtzi again (clearing La Sardinera Promenade).
