On the final day, the route, which will take place from 30 May to 2 June, will be open to the general public and will conclude with a great party at the Getxo Cruise Terminal
All proceedings from the sale of T-shirts, tickets, donations via bank or through bids for donated objects will be given over to the Cronos Hope Research Project.
Through its project to promote health and wellbeing Portu Osasuntsua (Basque for A Healthy Port) the Port Authority of Bilbao has organised a new solidarity trail, this time in favour of the metastatic breast cancer association, the first of its kind to exist in Europe, and specifically for the Cronos Hope Research Project. This project offers the opportunity for specific treatment according to the genetic alterations detected in each tumour.
The trail is some one hundred kilometres long and will take place between Mutriku and Getxo from 30 May to 2 June in homage to Evaristo de Churruca, one of the most important figures in the late nineteenth century development of the Port of Bilbao. The first three days of the trail will be carried out by Port Authority employees, while on the fourth, the general public will be able to take part.
The three stages to be covered by Port workers are: Mutriku–Lekeitio (18.5 kilometres); Lekeitio–Bermeo (27 kilometres); and Bermeo–Gorliz (36.2 kilometres). This stage will conclude with fun and festive activities in the seaside town of Gorliz.
The fourth and final stage will start from the Plaza del Astillero in the adjoining town of Plentzia at 8.30a.m. and end in the Olatua Cruise Terminal at Getxo (a distance of some 20 kilometres) where the trail will culminate in a family party.
To take part in the trail on 2 June, registration by email before 31 May is obligatory indicating name, surnames and T-shirt size at cancerdemamametastasico@gmail.com
Both participants in the trail, who have bought a T-shirt (at 10 euros), and those entering the festivity zone at Getxo (tickets 5 euros) can take part in all the activities and raffles throughout the day. In the concluding party, among others, there will be games including giant inflatables, face-painting, a parade by the 501st Legion, food trucks, Zumba and concerts; in addition, over twenty prizes will be raffled.
In parallel, as from 22 May, an auction will be held in solidarity, with personal objects donated by sports people, popular singers and private companies at https://www.ebay.es/rpp/solidario/subastas
Alternatively, donations can be made to the following account: ES82 0073 0100 5105 0540 9967.
