The Port of Bilbao has completed loading a Danieli STS crane on board the barge Caroline using self-propelled modular transporters. The crane’s dimensions (107 x 37.50 x 64 m) and its weight (2,450 tonnes) made it the greatest unitised cargo operation ever carried out in this port.
The embarkation operation of the crane, manufactured by URSSA, required the collaboration of Danieli and SARENS in engineering, Fracht Italia Forwarders, Davila Bilbao Shipping Agents and Consignaciones Toro y Betolaza Stevedoring.
Once lashing and welding were completed, Ibaizbal Tugs manoeuvred the barge in its departure. The AHT tug Mustang then took over until reaching the Belgian port of Ghent.
Operations such as this require a high level of specialisation and give prestige to the work of the shipping agent.
