Tomorrow 28 May, the Port of Bilbao will receive four cruise vessels, bringing to the Basque Country almost 6,400 passengers and over 3000 crew. They will berth between 7.00 and 8.00 hours, and sail between 14.00 and 18.00 hours. Three will dock at Getxo, while the fourth will do so at Zierbena. They proceed from Portugal and other ports in Spain, and will depart for France.
The arrival of four cruise vessels on the same day does not usually happen. Their simultaneous arrival supposes a new challenge both for the Port Authority and service providers – tugs, pilots, lashers, waste disposal, shipping agents and supplies- in addition to tour operators, receptive tourism, different public tourist organisms, and all the professionals attending this traffic in general.
May, with 17 calls, has been the month with most cruise vessel arrivals of the year. Throughout 2019, a further 50 are expected.
