Tours are free and will take place at weekends.
The Port Authority of Bilbao will continue to offer its free family guided tours of the Port of Bilbao throughout the 2019/2020 school year. This initiative, which began in May 2014, is part of the “Ezagutu Portua” (Basque for Know your Port) programme and the tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays.
Since the programme commenced, some 5,500 people have visited the Port’s facilities at Santurtzi and Zierbena, with an average of some 28 persons per group. The aim of the initiative is to bring the people closer to the Port’s activities and its strategic and economic importance for Biscay.
Tours are by coach, commencing at 10.30 outside the Tourism Office in Santurtzi, and last about two hours. Those interested should formally register previously at ezagutuportua@bilbaoport.eus or at the website bilbaoport.eus
The tour takes in both the oldest Port area as well as the new
docks gained from the sea. Outstanding are areas such as the dock for container loading and unloading, the Ro-Ro ramps prepared especially for wheeled traffic, the perishables warehouses, the laboratories for phytosanitary checks, the safety control tower, the docks for special loads traffic, and the industrial zone where the great petrol and gas tankers berth, and where the first marine wind farm in Spain is situated.
