Today, the Port Authority of Bilbao awarded its prizes for the second Port of Bilbao Story Competition, aimed at schoolchildren who have taken part in the “Ezagutu Portua” (Basque for Know your Port) programme in 2016/2017.
This prize aims to create bonds between young people and the Port of Bilbao as well as to strengthen socio-cultural and educational activities.
The winners were:
- First Prize: Perdido, (“Lost”), by Alejandro Lucha, (French College, Bilbao)
- Second Prize: Alexen Abenturak,(“The Adventures of Alex”) by David Alonso (Karmengo Ama School, Zornotza)
- Third Prize: Al norte de Finlandia (“North of Finland”), by Katalin Abad (French College, Bilbao)
Over 14,000 school visits
The Ezagutu Portua programme commenced in 2013, and since then 14,439 schoolchildren have come to get to know the Port. Only between January and October this year, there have been 3,633 young visitors, and for the school year 2017/2018 all available places have been filled. The tours are free and take place from Monday to Friday throughout the school year.
In addition, guided tours are offered during the week to university and vocational training students, and to the general public at weekends. Those people interested, must register beforehand either by email ezagutuportua@bilbaoport.eus or at the www.bilbaoport.eus website.
