This December marks the tenth anniversary of the coming into operation of the first service on the e-puertobilbao telematics platform – the Integrated Calls Procedure (PIDE) service for vessel entry/departure management. Throughout this time, the number of services, connected companies, certified users and interchanged messages has gradually increased. Thus, from its beginnings, when there was only one service and 30 companies were connected, the platform now offers 10 services and enables 320 companies to carry out information exchanges.
Throughout these years, a community of users and customers, who had used paper as the base for their information interchanges, has grown up around e-puertobilbao and moved on to working with electronic data interchange using standardized formats or electronic messages – all this together with the well-known advantages of simplification, speed, accessibility, availability and transparency.
Overall, this ten-year old tool makes it possible to foster present customer loyalty as well as offering competitive advantages to future companies operating through the Port of Bilbao over other logistics corridors.
