The Port Authority of Bilbao, in its capacity as a leading port in short sea markets and, in particular, with the United Kingdom, where it is the leader among Spanish ports, has been invited to take part in one of the panel discussions to be held at the Coastlink Conference.
Coastlink, to be held over 2 days (3-4 May) in Liverpool, UK, is the pan-European network dedicated to the promotion of short sea and feeder shipping and the intermodal transport networks that support the sector through ports. At Coastlink, the representatives of the port of Bilbao will network and further develop relations with other representatives from the port industry, exchanging views on innovation and the economic and environmental factors that will help to build a sustainable future. Additionally, they will outline the port’s strategy to offer competitive and environmentally sustainable services which contribute to economic growth, and for which the development of green and digital maritime corridors is a priority, and will showcase the excellent connectivity of the port of Bilbao and the large number of maritime services it provides for all types of traffic. These are just some of the reasons which make shipping through the port of Bilbao an effective and efficient alternative to much of the road transport to Northern Europe.
The panel discussion, entitled “Post Brexit and Post-Pandemic – Are we where we need to be?”, is scheduled for Wednesday, 3 May, with the Port Authority represented by the Head of Business Development, Amaia
Sarasola. The panellists will discuss the current challenges for short sea shipping and cargo traffic, the effects of Brexit on trade flow between the EU and the UK, the need for frictionless trade and reduced port congestion, and the outlook for the future.
Moderated by Richard Ballantyne OBE, Chief Executive of the British Ports Association, the panel will also include Doug Bannister, CEO of the Port of Dover; Howard Knott, Logistics Consultant of the Irish Exports Association; and Sean Potter, Commercial Director of DFDS A/S.
