The Port Authority of Bilbao has won the Prevencionar Saludable Award, in the large company category, in recognition of its work through its Portu Osasuntsua project to promote health and well-being. The other finalists in this category were Applus+, the Spanish Red Cross (Madrid), GlaxoSmithKline and Viesgo.
These biennial awards are given by prevencionar.com and e-saludable.com, two leading and specialised media organisations in the field of Health, Safety and Welfare at Work. The purpose of the awards is to recognise individuals or organisations that excel in the defence, promotion and support of health, safety and welfare at work. Furthermore, these awards are looking to become the most widely respected for professionals and companies in the field of occupational risk prevention, and to raise public awareness in this field and role-model and spread good practice, so that other companies, organisations, institutions and professionals may follow their example.
In its third edition, 340 national and international projects were submitted. Award-winners included companies and organisations such as Navantia, the Córdoba Provincial Water Board, the Spanish Red Cross (Autonomous Community of Madrid), Clave Informática, Amalio Sánchez Grande, Ga Group and the Asturias Hazard Prevention Institute, Prevencontrol, the Madrid Regional Occupational Health and Safety Institute, Mutua Asepeyo, Fellowes, Mutua Umivale Y Ga Group, Preving Consultores, Quintón Laboratories, Granjas Carroll (Mexico) and Exige Consultores.
Portu Osasuntsua
The general objective of the Portu Osasuntsua project is to achieve a healthy working environment, as stated by the WHO in the Luxembourg declaration. The project encompasses various activities and campaigns focused on delivering a healthy working environment, with strategies
designed to address shortcomings detected in the organisation and areas for improvement identified by the workers themselves.
This award is another in the list of accolades given to the Port Authority of Bilbao since 2015 in the field of promoting occupational health. These include the Gosasun Stamp, the best health control program in the II Healthy Company Awards, recognition of good practice in occupational health promotion by the INHST, and finalists in the two previous editions of the Prevencionar Awards.
The Port Authority of Bilbao has been the only organisation in the Basque Country to be distinguished with this award. The head of the Health, Safety and Environment Department and the person responsible for the health promotion project accepted the award on behalf of the organisation. The award was dedicated to the Metastatic Breast Cancer Association and its members, who the recipients of the award thanked for making the masks which they wore at the award ceremony held in Cordoba. These reusable and supportive hygienic masks can be purchased at the association’s website at www.cancermamametastasico.es. All proceeds go to the Association itself.
