The USX – United States Express service, handled by Marítima Dávila, is operated by Ellerman City Liners.
The service has been launched with the BUX FAVOURITE vessel, which has a capacity of approximately 3,000 TEUs.
This morning has seen the launch of the new USX – United States Express service at the CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal, handled by Marítima Dávila and operated by the company Ellerman City Liners. This new service connects Bilbao directly with the east coast of the USA, and is in keeping with the commitment to the port of Bilbao that the company has set out in its corporate strategy.
The event was attended by Ricardo Barkala (President of the Port Authority), Andima Ormaetxe (Director of Operations, Commerce and Logistics of the Port Authority), Capt. Rogelio Daganta (ship’s captain), Pelayo Dávila (General Manager of the Dávila Group), Jorge Sánchez (Director of Dávila Bilbao), Elvira Gallego (General Manager of CSPB), Elías García (COO of CSP Spain) and Francisco Pérez (Chief Captain of the Fiscal and Border Department of the Civil Guard). During the ceremony, the ship’s captain was presented with a commemorative plaque by the Port Authority of Bilbao.
The new weekly service is provided by container ships with a capacity in excess of 3,000 TEUs. In this case, the vessel selected to launch the service was the BUX FAVOURITE, which is scheduled to start operating today with 171 movements between loading and unloading.
One of the main advantages of this new direct service is the reduction in transit times between Bilbao and New York (15 days for imports and 18 days for exports), providing a very competitive offer in a context where trade relations between the two areas are of key importance. Furthermore, the service showcases the geostrategic location of the port of Bilbao on the international stage. The complete rotation is Bilbao, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Tilbury, New York, Wilmington, Jacksonville, Bilbao.
The United States is the main non-EU partner of the province of Bizkaia, so the introduction of this service is a commitment to further boost connections and business in the hinterland of the port. Furthermore, and as was confirmed at the XI Bizkaia-United States Business Forum organised by the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, this is a time of considerable business opportunity for companies from the North of Spain in view of the economic growth policies being promoted in the USA.
CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal S.L. is part of the COSCO SHIPPING PORTS (Spain) Terminals S.L.U. (CSP Spain) group and operates in the port of Bilbao, the strategic location of which makes it the best option in the Atlantic region of Southern Europe, connecting Spain with the main ports of Northern Europe.
