Throughout this month, the Port Authority of Bilbao will extend its free guided visits for adults to the Port of Bilbao to take in weekdays. The visits, which are normally at weekends, will now take place from Monday to Sunday until 2 January with a view to enabling those people wanting to get to know the Port’s activity and its strategic and economic importance for Biscay as a whole, to do so during their holiday period. This is a time when port activity increases due to seasonal consumption.
The guided bus tour starts at 10.30 at the Santurtzi Tourist Office and lasts about two hours. Those interested should register beforehand by email at ezagutuportua@bilbaoport.eus or at the website www.bilbaoport.eus.
The tour includes both the oldest port zone and the new piers reclaimed from the sea. From the dock fitted out for container loading and unloading can be seen the Ro-ro ramps specially prepared for wheeled traffic transit, the perishable goods warehouses, the phytosanitary control laboratories, the Marine
Rescue Tower, the specialised docks for heavy load cargo, the Industrial Zone where the great petrol tankers and gas carriers berth and the first marine wind farm in Spain.
The visits aim to bring people closer to the Port’s activity in a very pleasant way as well as to strategic and economic importance both for Biscay and the Basque Country.
