The Port of Bilao Authority, together with UniportBilbao, are participating in the Breakbulk Europe Connect 21, to promote the Port of Bilba and maintain contact with the main agents in the sector, hoping to meet again in the 2022 edition, which will take place in Rotterdam.
In 2020, 3,570 special consignments entered the port for subsequent shipment. Specifically, in terms of maximum dimensions, the heaviest piece weighed 180 tonnes; the longest, 75m; the widest, 7m; and the tallest, 7m. Bilbao is also used as an export hub for the main wind turbine manufacturers. This year, 160,000 tonnes of wind turbine components have been shipped.
In this sense, the Port Authority of Bilbao works alongside the manufacturers and customers who use the terminals of the port in the task of developing logistics corridors. One of these initiatives is to promote coordination between the different institutions and players involved in the transport of special parts from factory to port, with the aim of ensuring the competitiveness of their customers.
In this respect, the construction of eleven parking lay-bys for special
transport consignments has been approved on the N-240 national road.
The Port Authority is a member of the Wind Europe Ports Platform.
