The Port Authority of Bilbao has announced the Port of Bilbao closed 2013 with a 2.24% growth in traffic that totaled 30 million tonnes. This is significant inasmuch as it comes about after some years marked by a decrease in activity and a total fall of 25% in the traffic of the previous five years.
In the announcement, which will be followed over the coming weeks by more specific information about the year in terms of markets and economic data, the Port Authority considers that although this is only a slight increase, it does indicate the beginning of an improvement in our economy.
The recuperation is mainly due to liquid bulks, where fuel oil is starting to show a positive tendency; the same is happening with solid bulks with important growths in scrap, minerals and petroleum coke.
